5/2/2023 0 Comments Firewatch background gifThis might sound obvious, but it’s not something I had thought about until we started making the game. Some of the best views I’ve ever seen when out hiking, I’ve seen by taking a few hours out of a day trip to go up to a nearby fire lookout. The view will be ridiculous. They usually take bit of a climb, but they were built to give the person inside watching for fires the biggest, grandest view possible.Reference-material-gathering aside, the biggest thing I’ve learned is this: If you’re out on a day hike in a part of the world that has a fire lookout tower, always go to the lookout tower: Hopefully we’ll share more in a future post! Over the development of Firewatch, members of the team have visited about a half dozen lookouts across the western United States, and snapped tons of reference photos. The rise of satellite communication and the Internet means most fire lookout duty in 2015 is performed digitally through webcams, and the towers themselves have been shuttered or turned into cabins for hikers.īut that doesn’t mean you can’t go visit them! When you’re making a video game that centers around a lookout tower, you go and visit them a lot, even on vacations. Some of them are still in use, with an actual fire lookout sitting inside every day watching for fires, but that gets rarer every year. There are hundreds of fire lookout towers across the United States. Once you are done, you can play around with an array of 3D, screen resolution, and tiling options available, and choose one that befits you. From top to bottom: Sierra Buttes Lookout on the Pacific Crest Trail in California Watchman Lookout Station at Crater Lake, Oregon a view from the Sierra Buttes Lookout Huckleberry Lookout in Glacier National Park, Montana Dickson Lookout in Lagunitas, California Apgar Lookout in Glacier National Park, Montana a view from Apgar Lookout Campo Santo’s visit to the Crane Flat Lookout in Yosemite National Park, California a view inside the currently-staffed Huckleberry Lookout and a view inside the now-disused Sierra Buttes Lookout. Right-click the image and select the option to set it as your background. Select a photograph from your collection. How do I make an image my desktop wallpaper? You can do this by following a simple process: 1. All you need to do is to know how to save images as wallpapers, and there you go! You will have a wallpaper that suits your needs and preferences. Can I design desktop wallpapers? Yes, you can! You do not need to be a graphic designer for you to do this. That said, desktop wallpapers cannot be ignored, they mean different things to different people. Adding a quote will act as a reminder of what inspires you in your day-to-day life. Interesting, huh? You can add an image that shows how you feel or one that means something to you. Sometimes, people display their feelings through the use of desktop wallpapers. They add glamor to your computer and make it look aesthetically appealing and highly presentable. However, this element comes with a sense of beauty. In fact, you can decide to use a dark colour, and life will move on as usual. ![]() ![]() What is the use of a desktop wallpaper? Well, adding a wallpaper to your desktop is not mandatory. What you need to know is that these images that you add will neither increase nor decrease the speed of your computer. A desktop wallpaper is highly customizable, and you can give yours a personal touch by adding your images (including your photos from a camera) or download beautiful pictures from the internet. The background of this screen can be a single colour, multiple colours, or some other graphical representations. What is a desktop wallpaper? When you boot your computer, there is an initial screen that comes up, in which your folders, documents, and software shortcuts are placed.

While that’s great when it comes to overall size and carry-ability of a knife, sometimes, having a smaller blade with a larger handle is to one’s advantage, especially if you’re going to be using it for a while. Usually though, smaller blades also come with smaller handles. Most cutting tasks out there can be performed with blades 3.5” or shorter. Sheath Material: Kydex with Leather Dangler It has TOPS' famous differential heat treated 1095 carbon steel, some classy burlap Micarta handles with a large pinky ring for gloved hands, and a solid Kydex sheath with a leather dangler. The ergonomics are fantastic and the heavy blade does much of the work for you during chopping but is also nimble enough for slicing. Whatever you decide to use it for, you'll look good doing it. Put them together the right way, and you end up with an interesting tool. Due to the thinner blade, it gives you better precision and greater range from making delicate cuts to cutting thick branches with ease. The jimping on the spine and along the finger guard is ideal for a solid grip in hard use or slippery conditions. Their professional heat treat gives a long-lasting edge that is easy to re-sharpen once it is eventually needed. That thickness along with a full flat grind gives it strength over 1/8" blades but allows it to maintain superb cutting capabilities since it's slightly thinner than 3/16". Unlike TOPS' other models in the 4 to 4.5-inch range, this one is 5/32" thick. Either way, it'll look great and get the job done. So nice, you'll want to wear it to your next black-tie affair or maybe just out into the woods. Like a prized, single-malt, aged scotch, or a top-shelf cigar, the Baja 4.5 Reserve Edition looks every bit as good as those classics and comes with a quality double-stitched brown leather sheath to complete the look. As TOPS has continued to be successful in that arena, many colors and finishes have been offered, but the tan and black color combo remains one of THE classic looks. ![]() ![]() When TOPS started building knives for bushcraft outside of the tactical knives with a survival flair, black traction coating and tan canvas Micarta handles were the option on most. 5/1/2023 0 Comments Figma status![]() Allows for stacking of elements, where auto layout will breakĪll similar content, like buttons, inputs, etc should be variants for state changes and alternative choices. In the example seen here, you see a 40px margin on the white frame, with a containing block holding the 2 rectangles, that containing block specifies 40px between. For example, if you need 40px between content blocks, control that on the parent level, not individually on each block. To keep spacing clean, try to only get to the spacing value you need in one rule. The best way to think about auto layout is the same way you'd think about divs in code - but, since you can only control one value per auto layout frame, consider it as only one instance of margin. Read more in Figma's Auto Layout article. ![]() It will make your work considerably easier when it comes to updating and making changes as spacing will all reflow based on what you have set. Use auto layout on components, and frames within your work. □ Best Practices Turtle Auto LayoutĪll design work should be making use of auto layout. Overall, this will avoid using outdated design work and reduce overhead later on. If you have someone maintaining and owning the library, then communicate with them clearly to make sure they are aware when work is ready to be published. If you make a change and it's finished, publish it. Do not let changes get out of hand without review. It's imperative to stay on top of publishing. So, be certain you are creating your styles in the library, or they will be essentially useless within a component. Styles unfortunately do not cut and copy over. Just be courteous with your naming to make sure appropriate nesting occurs. Styles are a lot less intrusive, you can effectively add them at any-point, with little to no design debt increase. As an example, buttons should be contained as one, and filter down logically.Naming rules will evolve over time in a project, that's okay. Each project is going to be different in naming but, as a rule, we want to break down components into a foldering structure that avoids having to ever go back within the same family. These are some examples of how to name styles and components. If you name things clearly, and apply descriptions, it becomes considerably easier for folks to find what they are looking for. See Figma's Best Practice Article for greater detail on all things components and styles within libraries.īe descriptive with your naming, applying assets to a file in Figma can be quite the search adventure. Make sure all styles and components are in the library.Ī helpful tip if you have created components directly in your working file, you can cut them and it will re-path everything for you once you paste into the library. What Goes Into A LibraryĪs soon as you leave explorations and into production work, make a library - no styles should ever live locally beyond this point. This could look differently depending on each project but, once visual design has been decided on, a library is a must. Some projects will have a heavy wireframe phase, you can expect to start making a library once a functional direction is met. ![]() Further instructions are within the □ library.Ī good practice is to create a library, and actively add to it as soon as design leaves an exploration phase upon client approval, into a production phase. If the file is a library, add the link icon. Update the blue turtle with the clients logo, change the name of the project, and add the name of the file. A file should be clear about what it contains, without having to search through it. User Flows (Could be a separate file, or a page in an associated file)Īvoid non descriptive names, name things with the assumption that the audience is greater than just yourself. Files should also be created for cleanliness purposes. Each distinct phase of a project should have its own files. In the project space, be sure to name files in relevant ways. Projects at Turtle are going to take on different shapes but, the guidance below we can use to make it easier for all designers involved. Most projects at Turtle will encompass one of the release or feature focused approaches but, it's good to be aware of how this could spawn into even greater detail depending on clients, especially for long term work. Opposed to a hybrid that suits all best, with one direction. This would be prevalent in a more native based design project where the client wants to maintain standards for each platform. You could expect to have four files or more, one for each device, a shared global library, and depending on complexity, libraries for each device type. For example, if we're designing a product for iOS, Android, and Web. An additional element to this is with multi-faceted products. |
